Start with the two products actually being compared
Greenworks sells multiple decks, drives and battery bundles within each voltage family. A category-level 60V-versus-80V answer can mix equipment that does not share the same configuration. Here the 60V candidate is MO60L516, SKU 2531602; the 80V candidate is MO80L416, SKU 2550402.
The first is a 21-inch steel-deck push mower with one 5Ah battery. The second is a 21-inch self-propelled mower with one 4Ah battery. Decide whether pushing is comfortable and which family you already own before treating a voltage label as a performance verdict.
The kit differences that affect ownership
The runtime and recharge entries below are manufacturer figures for the specified configurations. They were not measured together under common grass, blade and drive conditions.
| Decision point | MO60L516 / 2531602 | MO80L416 / 2550402 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery family | Greenworks 60V | Greenworks 80V |
| Drive | Push | Self-propelled |
| Deck label | 21-inch steel | 21-inch steel |
| Included pack | One 5Ah | One 4Ah |
| Maker runtime maximum | Up to 45 minutes | Up to 33 minutes for this kit |
| Published weight | 59.5lb without battery | 75lb; battery basis not specified |
| Important check | Second bay does not mean a second included pack | Do not import runtime from another 80V bundle |
Separate families, even under one brand
Greenworks 40V, 60V and 80V are different battery systems. A 60V pack is not a spare for the 80V mower. Check the actual battery label, approved pack and physical fit rather than assuming a shared brand guarantees interchangeability.
If you already own suitable 60V equipment, changing to 80V can mean another charger and a separate pack stock. If you own 80V tools, that existing system may make the self-propelled kit more coherent. A familiar family still does not establish that a small existing battery will deliver the workload you need.
Push versus self-propel is the central choice
The 60V mower is simpler for a buyer comfortable pushing a full-size steel deck. It avoids a drive system you may not need on a level lawn. On an awkward or tiring route, drive assistance can be worth more than a small difference in a runtime claim.
The 80V model’s manual describes drive-only transport with the blade stopped and a temporary Turbo function. Turbo is for a change in workload, not free extra output; it uses energy. Drive assistance does not establish safe slope suitability, so follow the exact terrain limits in the supplied manual.
Understand the second bay and the recharge plan
The MO60L516 has two active battery bays with automatic switching, but the identified 2531602 kit includes only one 5Ah pack. A second compatible battery is a separate capacity decision unless the seller explicitly supplies a different bundle. Its quoted 45-minute maximum belongs to the supplied configuration, not two imagined packs.
For the MO80L416, use the 33-minute claim associated with the included 4Ah kit. Other 80V packages advertise different durations. Check the actual charger and recharge instructions, then plan how to finish heavier growth. Do not calculate a reliable mowing-time ratio from maximum voltage multiplied by amp-hours.
Clipping equipment, storage and the evidence
Check the supplied collection and discharge equipment in each exact kit. The MO60L516 packing list includes its high-lift blade and attachments; the MO80L416 has its own setup and upright-storage instructions. Folding handles alone are not universal permission to store any mower vertically.
The stated clipping modes and supplied attachments establish how each mower can be configured; they do not prove identical cut quality or collection in your grass. Check the 60V review and 80V review for the relevant controls, battery requirements and ownership limits before choosing a family.
Make the choice using the work you want to avoid
Choose 60V push if pushing is comfortable, the kit is suitable for your normal mowing routine and the family fits your other tools. Choose 80V self-propel if drive assistance and that existing battery system are worthwhile to you. If neither family is established, compare the EGO LM2114 push kit and the wider self-propelled guide before committing.
Measure actual mowable grass and consider charging access, height range and parts support. Those checks can rule out a configuration before the voltage number becomes relevant. Our battery-runtime guide helps turn the remaining uncertainty into a practical capacity plan.
If you want self-propel while staying with 60V, investigate the MO60L424 / 2531702 two-pack kit. It is a different mower from the push kit compared above, with two 4Ah packs and automatic bay switching. Choosing powered drive does not require changing to the 80V battery family.
Common questions
Is this a controlled head-to-head cutting test?
No. This is an editorial comparison of exact manufacturer-documented configurations and operator instructions, not a Lawn Current shared performance test.

Full-size push option for Greenworks 60V owners
Greenworks MO60L516 / 2531602
This kit is most persuasive if you already plan to use Greenworks 60V tools and do not need self-propel. A steel deck, full-size mowing path and supplied 5Ah pack give it a different role from the compact 40V model. The trade-off is pushing a listed 59.5-pound mower rather than choosing drive assistance.
Buying check: Match SKU 2531602 and model MO60L516; title uses LM2116.

Self-propelled choice for Greenworks 80V owners
Greenworks MO80L416 / 2550402
Buy this for its 80V-system fit and drive assistance, not because a higher voltage guarantees longer mowing. This exact one-pack kit has a shorter stated runtime than several alternatives. It suits an owner who values the steel deck and rear-wheel drive and has checked the included battery capacity against the size and condition of the lawn.
Buying check: Match SKU 2550402, MO80L416; title also uses LM2108S.
