EGO LM2156SP
Flexible blades and drive assistance, with a 10Ah battery in the specified kit.
Read the assessmentCordless & corded. Chosen for your yard.
For regular mulching and bagging, I’d start with the EGO LM2156SP. Its interchangeable blades, drive assistance and 10Ah kit make it a versatile choice. Smaller lawns, corded setups and existing battery systems call for different picks.

Choose the cutting blade for the job, rather than buying a mower on voltage alone.

Read the claims carefully. Runtime figures are manufacturer maxima, not results from one shared test. Makita publishes a coverage claim; the Milwaukee page mixes battery versions. Deck size is not always cutting width. We label a verified cutting path separately rather than assuming they are the same.
The recommendations, explained
Start with the first recommendation, then follow the alternative that fits your lawn. Assessments use manufacturer specifications, operator instructions and practical kit checks. How I choose the picks.

Start here if you want drive assistance and flexibility between mulching and bagging. The interchangeable lower blades are a practical reason to choose this kit over a basic single-blade push mower. Choose it when you will use those setup options; a compact, level lawn may need only a simpler push kit.
Choose it for: Weekly mowing with drive assistance and a choice of cutting blades.
Main trade-off: Changing lower blades requires safe isolation, tools and the correct reassembly.
In the specified kit: 1 × 10Ah; 700W Turbo Charger. Grass bag and frame; Mulching insert; Upper blade and installed mulching lower blade; High-lift lower blade; Extended-runtime lower blade; Side-discharge chute.
Power and compatibility: EGO 56V ARC Lithium batteries; warranty depends on eligible purchase.
Height adjustment: 1–4 inches; 8 settings in currently linked manual, p13.
Weight: 55.56 lb (without battery).
Runtime context: Up to 75 minutes; manufacturer claim, not a uniform test result.

Choose the aluminum-deck model when deck construction and selectable blade speed justify spending more. ECO, Normal and Turbo offer control that simpler mowers lack, but the larger, heavier mower is harder to justify for a cramped lawn with frequent turns. The LM2156SP remains the more restrained starting point.
Choose it for: A larger, heavier mower when deck construction and speed control justify the upgrade.
Main trade-off: 83.8 lb without the battery; lifting and tight storage need planning.
In the specified kit: 1 × 10Ah; 700W Turbo Charger. Grass bag and frame; Factory-fitted mulching insert; Factory-fitted High Performance blade set; High-Lift Bagging lower blade; Side-discharge chute.
Power and compatibility: EGO 56V ARC Lithium.
Height adjustment: 1–4 inches; 8 settings, front and rear adjustment levers.
Weight: 83.8 lb (without battery).
Runtime context: Up to 70 minutes; manufacturer claim.

A compact deck makes sense when access and turns matter more than covering open grass quickly. The 25322 is a focused small-lawn alternative to the full-size push mowers here, with bagging and mulching rather than a long feature list. Expect additional passes on larger lawns and allow for its slower supplied charger.
Choose it for: Small, interrupted lawns where handling matters more than a wide swath.
Main trade-off: Brushed motor; no drive assistance.
In the specified kit: 1 × 4Ah; Charger included; exact part number not verified. Grass catcher bag; Mulching plug; Safety key.
Power and compatibility: Selected Greenworks 40V packs; not 60V or 80V.
Height adjustment: 1.25–3.375 inches; 5 settings.
Weight: 37.8 lb (battery basis unspecified).
Runtime context: Up to 40 minutes; manufacturer claim. Listed recharge: 120 minutes.

This is a straightforward way to avoid battery charging when the whole mowing area is reachable with the correct outdoor cord. A full-size deck and three clipping modes make it more flexible than a miniature corded mower. Its suitability depends on outlet location and safe cable management; it is a poor fit for a lawn split by obstacles or distant sections.
Choose it for: A lawn fully reachable using the outdoor cord specified by the mower manual.
Main trade-off: Cord routing limits movement and access.
In the specified kit: Mower; no battery or charger. 13-gallon fabric collection bag; confirm discharge equipment with seller.
Power and compatibility: 120V supply and suitable outdoor extension cord; no battery platform.
Height adjustment: 1.5–4 inches; 7 settings.
Weight: 49.7 lb (manufacturer listing).

The Personal Pace handle is the main reason to choose this Recycler: it adjusts drive speed as you walk rather than asking you to settle on a fixed dial setting. It is an appealing switch from a familiar gas-mower layout. Factor in four-point height adjustment and the long listed recharge before choosing it for a multi-session job.
Choose it for: Homeowners who prefer a walking-pace handle to a speed dial.
Main trade-off: Four-point height adjustment; listed 87-pound weight.
In the specified kit: 1 × L432 8Ah / 432Wh; 1 charger; manufacturer lists 216-minute recharge. Grass bag; Side-discharge chute requested separately at registration; not in box.
Power and compatibility: Toro Flex-Force 60V.
Height adjustment: 1–4 inches; 4-point height adjustment.
Weight: 87 lb (battery basis unspecified).
Runtime context: Up to 53 minutes; manufacturer claim under light conditions/lowest-speed settings.

This is the uncomplicated EGO choice for a reasonably level lawn when you are comfortable pushing. It keeps a full-size deck, one-lever height adjustment and three clipping modes without adding a drive system. Choose the LM2156SP instead if pushing effort or interchangeable cutting blades would materially improve your weekly routine.
Choose it for: A relatively level lawn where pushing is comfortable and a simpler mower makes sense.
Main trade-off: No drive assistance.
In the specified kit: 1 × 6Ah; 320W charger. Grass bag and frame; Mulching insert; Side-discharge chute.
Power and compatibility: EGO 56V ARC Lithium.
Height adjustment: 1.25–4 inches; 7 settings.

This kit is most persuasive if you already plan to use Greenworks 60V tools and do not need self-propel. A steel deck, full-size mowing path and supplied 5Ah pack give it a different role from the compact 40V model. The trade-off is pushing a listed 59.5-pound mower rather than choosing drive assistance.
Choose it for: Buyers committed to Greenworks 60V who are comfortable pushing a full-size mower.
Main trade-off: No drive assistance.
In the specified kit: 1 × 5Ah; Charger included; exact part number not verified. Grass catcher; Side-discharge chute; High-lift blade in manual packing list.
Power and compatibility: Greenworks 60V.
Height adjustment: 1.375–4 inches in linked manual (rounded to 1.3 on product page).
Weight: 59.5 lb (without battery).
Runtime context: Up to 45 minutes; manufacturer claim. Listed recharge: 50 minutes.

Buy this for its 80V-system fit and drive assistance, not because a higher voltage guarantees longer mowing. This exact one-pack kit has a shorter stated runtime than several alternatives. It suits an owner who values the steel deck and rear-wheel drive and has checked the included battery capacity against the size and condition of the lawn.
Choose it for: Existing Greenworks 80V owners who want self-propel and have planned battery capacity.
Main trade-off: Listed 75-pound weight; basis unspecified.
In the specified kit: 1 × 4Ah; Charger included; exact part number not verified. Grass bag; verify mulch/discharge equipment against seller box list.
Power and compatibility: Greenworks 80V.
Height adjustment: 1.375–4 inches; 7 settings.
Weight: 75 lb (battery basis unspecified).

The real attraction is its narrow 13-inch cut and compact form, not the 14-inch deck label alone. That can make a tiny, interrupted lawn easier to work around, but it means more trips across open grass. Choose a wider push mower if mowing time matters more than footprint, and confirm retailer stock before settling on this older model.
Choose it for: A very small lawn and limited storage, accepting more passes across open grass.
Main trade-off: Narrow swath increases the number of passes.
In the specified kit: 2 × 4Ah; 20V dual-port charger. Mulch plug; Grass collection bag.
Power and compatibility: Two WORX Power Share 20V packs; one pack will not operate it.
Height adjustment: 1.5–3.5 inches; 6 settings.
Weight: 26.2 lb (without battery).
Runtime context: Coverage conflict: specifications say 5,000 sq ft, marketing 5,500 sq ft. Do not present either as guaranteed.

This is a purpose-built choice for someone already invested in M18 who wants a substantial steel-deck mower. The two-pack requirement matters: one spare battery will not run it. Its blade-independent drive is useful for moving between cutting areas, while kit cost, weight and control fit deserve careful consideration.
Choose it for: Committed M18 owners who want a substantial mower and will verify the battery version.
Main trade-off: Requires two installed M18 packs.
In the specified kit: 2 × 12Ah; official box list HIGH OUTPUT 48-11-1812; 48-59-1802 simultaneous dual-bay rapid charger. Grass bag; Mulch plug; Rear-side discharge chute.
Power and compatibility: Two M18 packs; use supported Milwaukee mower blades.
Height adjustment: 1–4 inches; 7 settings.
Weight: 78 lb (battery basis unspecified).
Runtime context: Milwaukee advertises up to 60 minutes under a defined maintenance cut, but current runtime prose names FORGE while the box list names HIGH OUTPUT packs. Confirm battery part numbers before relying on this claim.

The appeal is the complete XGT package: two high-capacity packs, automatic battery-bay switching and a steel deck. It is a sensible specialist option for XGT owners, but existing Makita LXT batteries do not help here. Compare the 76.5 lb published battery-fitted weight and assembled dimensions with your access and storage space before choosing it.
Choose it for: XGT owners who value the complete high-capacity kit; existing LXT packs will not fit.
Main trade-off: XGT and LXT batteries are not interchangeable.
In the specified kit: 2 × BL4080F 8Ah; DC40RB dual-port rapid charger. Grass bag and frame; 21-inch high-lift blade 191W87-2; Mulch plug 413L55-2; Side-discharge chute 413L57-3.
Power and compatibility: Makita 40V max XGT; not 18V LXT.

Weight: 76.5 lb (with battery).
Assembled dimensions: 68 × 23.5 × 43.5 inches (L × W × H). These are not folded storage dimensions.
Runtime context: Up to 1.2 acre with two 8Ah packs; manufacturer coverage claim, not a runtime measurement.

Consider this alongside the MM2000 when a corded setup fits the yard. The meaningful choice is the complete package, support and current selling terms rather than an unsupported cutting-performance ranking: both offer a full-size deck and three clipping modes. The CRAFTSMAN page explicitly lists the collection bag and side chute in the box.
Choose it for: A corded-friendly yard where the supplied bag and side chute meet your needs.
Main trade-off: Corded access and cable management required.
In the specified kit: Mower; no battery or charger. Collection bag; Side-discharge chute.
Power and compatibility: Mains-powered corded model, despite faulty battery field in page specifications.
Height adjustment: 1.5–4 inches; single lever.
Cord check: The CMEMW213 manual’s 12–16A row lists 14AWG at 25 feet and 12AWG at 50 feet; 100- and 150-foot cords are not recommended. Follow the manual for your exact unit.

Consider this kit if you already use RYOBI 40V tools and want drive assistance, a stacked blade system and a genuine side chute. Its integrated mulching door and control panel make frequent changes between bagging, mulching and harder cutting more convenient. The two included 6Ah packs are useful, but the mower is a substantial machine; a smaller push model is easier to justify for a compact level yard.
Choose it for: RYOBI 40V owners who want drive assistance and flexible clipping modes.
Main trade-off: Published 79.2 lb weight is substantial; manufacturer page does not identify whether batteries are fitted.
In the specified kit: 2 × OP40605 40V 6Ah; OP406A 40V Rapid Charger (120V, 60Hz, 295W input). Grass catcher bag and frame; Start key; Side-discharge chute; Operator manual.
Power and compatibility: RYOBI 40V; not RYOBI ONE+ 18V. Manual recommends two 6Ah-or-larger 40V packs for optimal performance.
Height adjustment: 1–4 inches; manufacturer range.
Weight: 79.2 lb (battery basis unspecified).
Runtime context: Up to 75 minutes using both included 6Ah batteries; manufacturer estimate, not Lawn Current measurement.

This is the simpler RYOBI option for a reasonably level yard when you are happy to push. It supplies a full-size 20-inch deck, one-point height adjustment and three clipping modes without a drive system. The one-pack kit gives less included battery capacity than the RY40HPLM02K2, so do not buy it expecting the same mowing session or drive assistance.
Choose it for: A relatively level lawn where a simpler RYOBI 40V push kit is sufficient.
Main trade-off: No self-propelled drive; slopes or frequent heavy collection increase operator effort.
In the specified kit: 1 × OP40605 40V 6Ah; OP408 40V Fast Charger (120V, 60Hz, 194W input). Grass catcher bag; Start key; Side-discharge chute; Wrench; Operator manuals.

The narrow 14-inch cut and low published weight make this a sensible mower to investigate for a small lawn with tight routes and a nearby suitable outlet. It avoids battery replacement and charging, but a larger 20-inch mower completes wider open areas in fewer passes. Its 7-gallon catcher and 3-inch maximum height are more restrictive than the larger alternatives.
Choose it for: Small reachable lawn sections where bagging and a narrow cut suit the mowing plan.
Main trade-off: Narrow cut means more passes over open areas.
In the specified kit: Mower; no battery or charger. Grass collection bag (7-gallon stated capacity); Upper and lower handle sections; Locking knobs, bolts and cable clips in manual packing list; Operator manual.
Power and compatibility: Not applicable. Requires US 120V AC, 60Hz power. Read the exact manual and cord label; do not use a generic cord recommendation.
Height adjustment: 1.4–3 inches; 5 positions in current manufacturer-linked manual pp3 and17.
Weight: 28 lb (manufacturer listing).

Choose this composite-deck EGO when controlling how much grass you collect is more useful than simply choosing bagging or mulching. Its five-position clip selector, selectable blade speeds and interchangeable lower blades offer a deliberate upgrade over a simpler mower. The configuration also deserves comparison with EGO’s heavier aluminum-deck LM2206SP, rather than assuming every 22-inch EGO is the same machine.
Choose it for: Buyers who value adjustable mulch flow and a composite deck while accepting a substantial machine.
Main trade-off: More controls and blade configurations to understand than a basic push mower.
In the specified kit: 1 × 10 Ah 56 V ARC Lithium; 700 W Turbo Charger. Grass bag and frame; Factory-installed High Performance blade set; High-Lift Bagging lower blade; Side-discharge chute; Operator manual.

Height adjustment: Eight positions from 1–4 inches; current manual p 13.

This is the meaningful step up from the one-pack MO60L516 push kit when you want drive assistance and more included 60 V battery capacity. The manual verifies automatic switching between the two battery bays, so the second pack is part of the working setup. It remains a 65 lb mower before the packs are installed; choose it for its useful kit and control features rather than a voltage-based power ranking.
Choose it for: Existing Greenworks 60V owners who want drive assistance rather than the 60V push model.
Main trade-off: 65 lb without battery; manual maneuvering and lifting still require thought.
In the specified kit: 2 × 4 Ah 60 V; Dual-port charger; confirm received charger label. Grass collection bag; Mulching plug; Side-discharge chute; Safety key; Additional high-lift blade; Operator manual.
Power and compatibility: Greenworks 60 V family only; not 40 V or 80 V. Linked manual identifies LB604 / other BAC series batteries and 2928702 / other CAC series chargers as compatible references.

Measure the grass you actually mow, then look at gates, narrow side yards, trees and the distance to an outlet. A wider deck saves passes on open ground but can add work around tight turns.
A bare mower, a one-pack kit and a two-pack kit are different purchases. Check battery part numbers, amp-hours, charger type and replacement-pack cost. Voltage and amp-hours alone do not establish cutting performance or reliable coverage. Packs from different voltage families often do not fit, even when the brand is the same.
Manufacturer “up to” runtime is a ceiling under the maker’s conditions. Tall growth, dense patches, wet grass, self-propel and a higher-lift blade can change consumption. Plan how you would finish a demanding mow: a spare compatible pack, a charging break or a smaller mowing session. Avoid buying with no capacity margin.
Drive assistance can matter more than another feature on a heavier mower. For a small, level lawn, a simpler push model may be enough. Try the control position if possible and check whether the drive works independently of the blade. Self-propel adds weight and energy use; the operator manual still controls slope suitability.
For regular mulching, blade choice and manageable grass length matter. Bagging adds stops to empty the collector. A “3-in-1” label does not tell you whether the discharge chute exits at the side or rear, or whether it is actually supplied. The EGO and Toro examples above show why the exact hardware and box list deserve a look.
Buy an outdoor-rated cord in the gauge and length permitted by the exact manual. Keep it behind the mower and use the electrical protection required by the instructions. Do not assume every mower accepts a 100-foot cord: the 13A CMEMW213 manual does not recommend 100- or 150-foot lengths. A distant or obstructed lawn usually favours cordless.
Look for a supported replacement blade, local service options and clear warranty eligibility from the seller. Measure actual storage space; packaged or assembled dimensions do not prove a folded mower fits. Consider battery replacement alongside the initial kit, and follow the manual’s cleaning and battery-storage instructions.
Use the mowing height suited to your grass and avoid removing more than one-third of the leaf in a single cut. A sharp blade and dry grass help produce a cleaner result. University of Missouri Extension explains the mowing basics.
Editorial approach
I focus on the choice a homeowner actually has to make: the exact kit, the lawn it suits and the compromise that comes with it.
This guide assesses documented U.S. models using manufacturer information and available operator manuals. Runtime and coverage maxima remain manufacturer claims; buyer-fit recommendations are editorial judgments.
Check the mower, battery kit, charger and attachments against manufacturer pages and available operator manuals.
Consider drive effort, cutting width, clipping modes, storage and the battery family rather than counting features.
Keep manufacturer claims, operator instructions and editorial judgments distinct. Different battery versions and cutting setups do not make a fair runtime ranking.
Found a changed kit or an inaccurate detail? Send Steven the model number and source so it can be checked.
The questions that matter
Practical answers before you commit to a mower or battery system.
Find your starting pointFor regular mulching and bagging with drive assistance, my first recommendation here is the EGO LM2156SP kit. Its interchangeable lower blades and included 10Ah battery make it a versatile starting point. It is not the right answer for every yard: choose a compact push mower for a tiny lawn, a corded mower when cable routing is practical, or a matching battery platform if you already own suitable packs.
A battery mower gives you freedom from the cable but adds charging, battery ageing and replacement-pack costs. A corded mower can make sense for an accessible lawn near a suitable outlet. The BLACK+DECKER MM2000 and CRAFTSMAN CMEMW213 are the corded choices here. Check their exact extension-cord requirements before choosing by yard size.
There is no single useful number. Grass height, moisture, cutting height, drive use, blade selection and pack condition change the result. The comparison table labels manufacturer maximum-runtime claims. Those claims were not collected under one shared test and should not be read as a head-to-head ranking.
Many full-size cordless models can handle demanding maintenance cuts, but tall, wet or overgrown grass uses more energy and can require a slower pass or higher first cut. Maintain a sharp blade and mow often enough to avoid removing too much at once. Do not treat a voltage label or a maximum-runtime claim as proof of performance in your own grass.
It can be worth it when pushing effort is the main obstacle to comfortable mowing. For a small, level lawn, a simpler push model such as the EGO LM2114 or Greenworks 25322 may be sufficient. A drive system also adds weight and uses energy. Follow the mower manual’s terrain and slope limits; drive assistance does not establish slope suitability.
No. Greenworks 40V, 60V and 80V are separate families; Makita XGT and LXT are different systems. Milwaukee’s mower requires two M18 packs, and the WORX WG779 requires two Power Share packs. Check the exact model, battery family, physical fit and required capacity rather than the brand name alone.
A kit is usually the clearer starting point when you do not own suitable batteries and a charger. A bare mower may make sense for an existing system, but only after checking capacity and compatibility. For example, EGO LM2156SP is the one-10Ah kit, while LM2150SP is the tool-only version and LM2156SP-2 has two 10Ah packs.
